Fujitsu siemens 15 inch LCD TFT flat panel computer monitor

Flat-screen monitors are not only objects of desire around the office, but also save on important desk space.
The picture quality has improved and prices have plummeted over the past year, to the point where they are a sensible alternative to the traditional bulky cathode ray tube screens.
A new addition to the choice is the Fujitsu Siemens CTM5005 15-inch TFT LCD monitor. It is light, and the screen surface is tougher and harder than some recent versions which proved worryingly prone to damage.
The screen's three cables slot into the back and are then hidden by a neat plastic cover keeping them tidy and out of sight, and the angle of view has a wide range of adjustment.
The screen can manage resolutions of up to 1,024 x 768, but on a 15-inch monitor this can make desktop icons rather small so the lower resolution of 800 x 600 is more convenient - as with cathode-ray tubes. There is a very slight pincushion effect, but both colour and brilliance are the same from the centre of the screen right up to the edges.
Buttons adjust the volume - the slim case also hides speakers - or adjust contrast, brightness and even the colour temperature.
The good news is that the Fujitsu Siemens CTM5005 monitor costs £235 including VAT if you shop around. So the addition of a TV receiving card to the computer - or even a slightly more expensive external tuner - produces a better television picture at half the price of buying a 15-inch flat-screen TV set.
Many computers now also have the advantage of a built-in DVD player.
